The Mysterians
Most people do not know this one, but I do. It was the first for me. And The Mysterians had it all. Heat rays,
a Disintegrator ray -like the one that came out the wing tips of the WOW machines-, a giant robot, floods,
they needed a new place to live, and women to increase their race as atomic wars has left them sterile.
Did I mention they came from Mars. If that doesn't cover all the bases I don't know Scifi! Actually the Mysterians came from a planet between Mars and Saturn,
which they destroyed in a great atomic war. Ah, I think that would be Jupiter. I think the Mysterians meant the
asteroid field between Mars and Jupiter.
It never ends. The voices never sync up with the mouths.
The background music is awful. My family makes me watch it with the door closed. God I love this movie.
I bought a couple of tapes before I found one in good enough shape to convert to DVD.
Now I can play it over and over again without wearing it out.
The Opening scene was the Mysterian's space station with flying saucers coming and going. The actual scene
is very dark. You can not see a thing. So I put a big blue Earth behind the Mysterians Space Station. Even the
little saucers show up.
Next is a shot of one of their labs inside the giant dome, and common sharft, and what might be a power center.
Next is the robot attacking the little city near the dome.
The lower shot of the Universe ship -you call flying saucers- There are very few good shots of the saucers. They are always at a great distance and only the bottom can be seen. There is one great close up of these ships as they are kidnapping an earth women.
Good close up lots of detail. But just the bottom. Accept for a water landing sequence near the end of the movie there are no good shots of the saucer. It is my feeling that this is a gorgeous saucer, I just love it.
This is the start of the battle scene. Its missing a lot of trees and shrubs, buts its underway.
I always like doing the interior of the ships. Lets start with what we know. The saucers made jumps,
first to the moon then to the space station then Earth. So its not a real long range ship, probably limited fuel not
atomic powered. From the kidnapping scene its only about 50 to 60 feet across, making it probably one man. Next it hovers, so it has some kind of anti-gravity. So top speed is not critical
for escaping Earth's gravity. Also aerodynamics is not a real problem. The bottom of the ship lights up as the
saucer accelerated. So most of the powers was focused there.
The bottom of the ship is covered with anti-gravity emitters. Each connected to one of three wave generators
located near the rear of the ship. A reactive fuel is feed to reactors from one of six fuel tanks in the rear.
This is primarily a weapon so large disrupter generators are located at the front, each feeding a particular accelerator
and finally to the ray emitter. Air and water tanks located at the outside and the single pilot center front.
